Share the Warmth this winter by donating your unused winter coats and jackets to keep the homeless warm.
We are Jenny Barrett and Gaynor Williams and we’re friends and neighbours who live in Hove. Our pop-up campaign to help the homeless this Christmas is as simple as it is essential.
We’re just a couple of friends who wanted to do something to help the homeless people we see in our city who have a tough time, especially when it’s freezing in the winter.
We need your help now
The super-quick campaign called Share the Warmth (Brighton and Hove Coat Collection) aims to capture Christmas goodwill by asking for donations of used coats and jackets which we will collect and distribute to homeless charities.
In just two weeks, we’ve already got the support of a host of local companies such as the Big Beach Cafe at Hove Lagoon, Gelato Gusto ice-cream parlour and other local businesses to become drop-off centres for the coats.
Homeless charities need help
With our volunteers which includes support from Albion in the Community, we are organising the collection of coats and jackets to be distributed to organisations in Brighton and Hove who are already helping the homeless such as the Brighton Housing Trust, Off the Fence, Antifreeze, The Clocktower Sanctuary, and St John Ambulance.
We also have permission from Southern Railway to collect coats at Brighton mainline station on Thursday 19th December so commuters can contribute to the cause on their way to work.
Now we need your help. If you want to donate a coat or two, leave them at our drop-off centres across the city. Please volunteer some time to hand out flyers, pick up coats or anything else you can do to help. Please spread the word through your social media contacts. If you’d like to contact us with any questions, get in touch.
